Paradise Into a Parking Lot
It isn’t enough that they’ve taken it from us before. It was after the first World Trade Center bombing, so that the police could park their cars there out of sight from the terrorists. But when they finally gave it back it was completely destroyed. Thanks to SteveR and the community of skateboarders, it was fixed up again.
Now, instead of police cars, they are going to park construction trucks and equipment there?

The area under the Brooklyn Bridge has been a popular skateboard park for decades, but its days are soon coming to an end, at least temporarily. The city plans to use the internationally known Brooklyn Banks skate park as a staging area during the Brooklyn Bridge reconstruction, which is starting later this year and will last until 2014, said Ralph Musolino, a district manager for the city Parks Dept.
This is not just a terrible thing for skateboarding, it affects inliners, BMXrs.. and even those scooter kids. Every kid who’s ever been out there, ever adult who has a history there, needs to write a letter, make some calls… something. The Brooklyn Banks represents so much more than just a spot to hang out – and the community of people who know this, need to speak out.
