The Origin of Philanthropy: Prometheus was a Greek titan whose name meant “forethought”. The gods considered his nature to be “philanthropos tropos” meaning he had a “humanity-loving character”. Prometheus gave the humans two empowering gifts; fire (symbol of enlightenment, science, and engineering) and blind hope (optimism). In short, the great Titan gave to humanity the ability to pursue a better life and the unwavering hope that they could.
