2011 Skateboarding Summer Camp – With Transportation From New York City

Skateboarding Summer Camp 2011

GardenSK8 Indoor Skatepark

NYC Summer Skate Camp
SUMMER/2011

What: Summer Skateboard Camp

When: June 14th through September 2nd 2011.

Who:Campers of a ALL ages are accepted

Rates: $595 per week (ALL packages include transportation, chaperone and a catered lunch with beverages.)

GardenSK8 Indoor Skatepark is located just 24 miles from mid-town Manhattan in Pine Brook NJ. For 3 years running we have offered a summer skateboard camp to NYC residents. Our campers are met by a chaperone at designated pickup / drop off spot in the manhattan. They are transported by a privately owned and operated shuttlebus to the park. Our driver has worked with the MTA for over 20 years and is also a skateboarder who also has his kids in the program. All of our staff, including our driver has worked for the camp for the past few years. GardenSK8 opened in 2008 and immediately became the goto spot for parents looking for a safe clean place for their kids to skateboard. The Owner and Camp Director Todd Schwartz is a father of four that built the park and its programs around the younger demographic. Skateboarding is a unique sport; our approach to teaching it is the same. The camp size is intimate with less than 30 kids and a 5:1 or better counselor ratio. We focus hard on the basic fundamentals, safety, and skatepark etiquette. We intermix core training with fun and games, the result being a great experience for kids of all skill levels. No experience is necessary, just the desire to have fun.

Skateboarding Gives Back: Next Up Foundation, Non Profit

Brazilian skateboarder, inspired by his own challenges, created non profit programs to help improve the quality of life for kids in underprivileged neighborhoods in Brazil and Orange County, CA.

Such an inspiring story about a program that helps youth overcome the challenges of poverty and negative influences through skateboarding. Brazillian founder, Vinicius Tinoco, worked his whole life toward the dream of building a program in his native

Next Up is a non-profit organization, in Orange County, CA, that provides after-school programs to motivate and inspire kids to achieve success. Help youth resist the negative mentoring kids through skateboarding.

Vinicius Tinoco – Founder / CEO
Vinicius Tinoco aka Vina was born in Sao Paulo, Brazil and at the age of 12 started skateboarding and still loves it. Vina believes that every single child deserve a chance to learn that we all should be successful in our lives. No matter where you were born, no matter your skin color or if you are rich or poor, Vina believes that through the use of sports and leisure activities we can drastically minimize street violence, drugs use, poverty and hunger because of his own experience of being born in a very impoverished neighborhood. Vina has worked for the Foundation for the Well Being of Minors in Sao Paulo, Brazil also known as Casa Foundation, which is an institution for kids under the age of 18 who has committed a crime. He was a volunteer teaching the kids how to skate and also to apply all the attributes that they learn from skateboarding to their lives!

Skateboarding for School Essay Topic – Working on a skateboarding related essay for a school paper? Trying to reach out to lawmakers about unfair, no skateboarding, laws in your neighborhood? Talk about how leaders in local skateboarding communities give back to their neighborhoods. Remember to mention that skateboarding is an activity that brings together people, across all social and economic backgrounds, to participate in a physical activity that can be pursued independently or with a crew.

Uptown’s Lorena Lima Kills Barcelona

“Lorena, Tell us some thing about you, what are you studing, age, etc.
I’m originally from Brasil but have lived in the U.S. (New Jersey) most of my life. I started skating when I was about 11 years old and since then my whole life completely changed. I’m currently 20 years old and getting my B.S. degree in business administration with a double concentration in marketing and management. I’m not completely sure what I want to do after college, but I hope to stay within the skateboarding industry.”

NYSkateboarding.com 2.0

NYSkateboarding.com Launches All-New Website

Holy awesome.

My good friend Rick over at NYSkateboarding.com has just launched v2.0 of his site and it is everything New York City skateboarders have been waiting for.

“Every skater should skate New York City at least once in their lives. Nothing compares to emerging from the subway into a canyon of buildings then skating off into traffic with yellow cabs, bike messengers and all other manor of NYC hustle and bustle swirling around you. No other city in the world feels like New York for skating and no other website covers the city and state of New York like NYSkateboarding.com.”

Indoor Skate Park: 5 Minutes from New York City

Below The Bridge Skate Park

Don’t let your skateboard sit in a corner this winter.

Below the Bridge
9-11 Gertrude St
Bayonne NJ 07002

Below the Bridge Skate Park in Bayonne New Jersey is a fun little park that is a 5 minute hop across the Bayonne bridge from Staten Island, from Brooklyn, an easy 15 minutes, from Manhattan maybe 20… tops. Quoting Quartersnacks article, “The park is part wood, part concrete, with a Berrics-esque design plus half of a mini-bowl.”

Skateboarding Event: High Ollie Contest, January 30th, 2011 @ 3PM. Who will be there: 5Boro, Classic Skate Shop, Maloof, and NJ Skate Shop.

Below the Bridge in Bayonne New Jersey is a fun little park that is a 5 minute hop across the Bayonne bridge from Staten Island, from Brooklyn, an easy 15 minutes, from Manhattan maybe 20… tops. Quoting Quartersnacks article, “The park is part wood, part concrete, with a Berrics-esque design plus half of a mini-bowl.”

Below the Bridge is the Brain Child of surfer concrete contractor Victor Lucciola and skateboarder Gary Iannitelli of Classic Skate Shop. It is definitely a street-inspired park that seems smaller than expected, but there is plenty to skate for most levels and Victor has big plans for expansion in the future that include designs for a bowl and other fun vert- obstacles. I can imagine concerts and local bands showing up at this venue very soon.

Victor, a father himself, is thrilled to see kids coming out in the blizzard conditions and enjoying the space he has built. Sofia, his daughter, just had her 8th birthday party in the very cool party space that overlooks the entire park.

Birthday Party Space

Not only is the park available to rent for a meezly $350ish, but the warehouse has a really nice party space for pizza and cake that overlooks the entire park. There are several packages available that include gear rental, lessons and demos, call for more information. You can’t beat this place for a birthday party, there is no comparison in the immediate area. This spot is great because it is the only one in the immediate area that allows skateboarding and rollerbladers. (The rollerbladers are going to freak for its quickness and short distances from obstacle to obstacle.)

Beginner Skateboarding

When Uptown visited, it was only a week into it’s opening and the indoor park was super busy because of the snow, but Victor has plans to organize parent/kid beginners sessions and lessons. We will keep you posted as more information becomes available.

You know how we feel about supporting local businesses, so before you swing by the skate park, you should definitely check out Classic Skate shop. It’s a core shop located at 776 Broadway Bayonne, NJ and the owner Gary is very helpful, knows a lot about skateboarding, the area, and can get you anything you need from kicks to helmets to skateboards.

Classic Skate Shop in Bayonne NJ has all the gear you need.
